Reverse 911 Community Notification System

Most Oro Valley residents know they can call 9-1-1 to get assistance in the event of a police, fire, or medical emergency. With the Reverse 911 system, Oro Valley’s emergency services personnel can also notify residents and businesses about a potential emergency circumstance.

The Reverse 911 Community Notification System allows the Town of Oro Valley to rapidly notify specific geographic areas by telephone. What may have taken hours consuming a large portion of personnel to accomplish can be done in a fraction of that time with little impact on officer deployment.

How does Reverse 911 work?

In the event of an emergency, Oro Valley's emergency services personnel can identify the affected area of Oro Valley and record a message that describes the situation and recommends the protective actions residents should take. The Reverse 911 system will automatically call out to all telephone numbers within that geographic area and deliver the recorded message. If phone lines are busy, the system will attempt to redial those numbers a predetermined number of times to make contact. The system is designed to play the message upon voice activation, such as if an answering machine picks up the call, the emergency message will be left on the machine.

Am I in the database?

Our initial phone database list comes from the E9-1-1 data that our local telephone company, Qwest, has provided us. This includes listed and unlisted numbers for landline phones. Residences and businesses with only cell phone or broadband services are not currently listed in our database and are encouraged to submit their phone number so that if something happens, we can reach you.
